Dance styles explained
Bachata comes from the Dominican Republic. Today you will meet several directions that differ clearly in footwork, body contact and music — from the playful original through the close, wave-driven Sensual to the modern fusion schools.
SensualSensualBody waves, isolations, close connection — to slow, often pop/R&B-flavoured remixes.
Born in Spain, Bachata Sensual combines the basic step with body waves, isolations and led upper-body and head movements. Lots of closeness and connection, danced to slower remixes and bachata ballads. Today the most widely taught style in the world.
