Dance styles explained
Bachata comes from the Dominican Republic. Today you will meet several directions that differ clearly in footwork, body contact and music — from the playful original through the close, wave-driven Sensual to the modern fusion schools.
DominicanaBachata DominicanaThe original: fast footwork, lots of hips, few patterns — to classic bachata music.
The traditional form from the Dominican Republic: playful footwork, syncopations, hip movement and improvisation instead of fixed figure sequences. Danced to original bachata with guitar and bongos. Very musical and social — ideal for learning the true bachata feel.
